Secret 7″
A sleeve for “No Kind Words” by The Maccabees
About Secret 7″
Secret 7″ brings music and visual art together for War Child UK. Seven songs by well-known musicians are each pressed onto 100 seven-inch records, and artists from around the world create a one-of-a-kind sleeve for every record, using the song as their inspiration.
All 700 sleeves are shown together in London and offered in an online auction. Every record is anonymous: neither the artist nor the song is revealed until the winning bidder receives it, so each piece is chosen for the art alone. Since it began in 2012, Secret 7″ has raised more than £900,000 for War Child UK, with 100% of proceeds going to mental health support, immediate aid, education and protection for children affected by conflict.
The tenth edition, in 2026, featured songs by John Lennon, The Last Dinner Party, Gabrielle, The Maccabees, Skin, Glass Animals and Bastille. Shari Petti’s sleeve, selected for the exhibition and auction, was made for “No Kind Words” by The Maccabees. It was shown alongside sleeves by artists including Clare Twomey MBE, Thierry Noir, Murugiah, Joy Yamusangie, Ken Nwadiogbu, Justine Frischmann, Pete Fowler, Andy Vella, The Connor Brothers and The Maccabees’ own Orlando Weeks. Past editions have included sleeves by Ai Weiwei, Yoko Ono, Anish Kapoor and Es Devlin.
